Day 4 - Public Game Page!

Happy 4th day!

Here's what I got done today :

  • Scripting : Hit the 1,000 word mark for my actual script today
  • Made placeholder backgrounds + Concept Sketches
  • Implemented what I have scripted into engine with those placeholder backgrounds
  • Made my game page public with some of the placeholder art
  • Started making edits to implemented script so it could read better

Writing for TTRPGS is so different than writing for visual novels in terms of pacing so I had to make some edits to text today; I kinda forgot there was a text limit, so I had a couple places with overset text. I'm happy with what I have so far though, I think it'll be good for me to script/edit first & then deal with all the art afterwards just so I know exactly how much finished art I need to produce.

The placeholders are good for judging aesthetic in the meantime though. For now I've chosen to have my game be grayscale + red spot color, but idk if i'm fully sold on it just yet.

Some info about the game i'm making :

Mona Mourn is a detective visual novel with what i'm hoping is minimal hand holding. I've always liked mystery games that let me do actual detective work, so i've been leaning into that style of writing. The game is set to have clues in both the art & the text, but i'm thinking on whether there's other ways I could implement detective work.

Some of my inspirations :

  • Night in the Woods
  • Disco Elysium
  • TTRPGS
  • Slay the Princess
  • Scarlet Hollow
  • And more!

Total hours worked today : 6hrs 45min

Now that the game page is public, feel free to chat with me about game dev & progress on this project!!
