Devlog 008 - Progress on Motel

Hi everyone, sharing an update from last week!
Here’s what I got done :
- I went over everything I’d already written just to re-familiarize myself
- I decided that the locations you’ll be able to visit at night are dependant on prev. choices made during the day. (e.g. if you tell Douglas that Jane Doe is a werewolf, it unlocks a new location to visit later on) This helps with giving weight to your decisions, including which places you visit without Douglas by your side, and what information you get out of them.
- The intro to the motel, and the option allowing you to rest for the night are fully written already.
- I’ve written a majority of the other options too, they just need to be wrapped up with text from your prev. decisions.
- I also added in the scenes where you’d opt to go to a location at a later time. Timing is going to be important in your investigation, and will affect who you get to talk to, and what they say.
- Added an extra night to the timeline, because I felt like maybe it was too tight. I also wanted to give players a day where they investigate with Douglas and can opt to leave things for when they’re with him.
- Started structuring out how the final accusations will go + the epilogue scenes. Players will optimally be able to type in who they want to accuse for each murder, modifying the epilogue to reflect the exact ending they got.
The heaviest wordcount is probably around the second trip to the morgue, and your first visit to the Lucky Clover. I’m happy with the progress from this week.
Up next is :
- Finishing up night 1 and setting all the determinants for each location.
- The intro for Morning 2 is already written, so I’ll be jumping right into scenes for day 2.
I’m debating making an extended demo, but i’m not sure if I want to put the resources towards that just yet. Going back over all the paintings is going to be an entire thing, so I want to make sure I give it some thought, but also an extended demo would be pretty neat………
